Your learning partner for growth and impact.

Dear friends,

After 20 weeks of reading, reflection, case studies, and peer learning, the inaugural Impact Philanthropy Advisor cohort will complete the program this month. Congratulations to our first Certified IPAs! Connect with our graduates to hear about their experience, and join us for the next cohort starting in April or July!

At Daylight, we’re committed to cultivating a thriving philanthropic advising field while supporting advisors in their professional and personal growth. That’s why we’re developing a competency model to define the key attitudes, knowledge, and skills needed for success in philanthropic advising. Our report and recommendations will be ready this summer, and we look forward to your input.

We invite you to read this month's blog post, I Am The Helper, on Crystal Clear. Crystal’s powerful words may resonate with you during this time:

"Information and words of care and comfort are undoubtedly important in a crisis. However, seeing people in action—knowing that steps are being taken to mitigate harm and find resolution—provides a sense of stability amid chaos."

As industry practitioners, we remain in the field, both online and in person. Find us at a conference, connect with us on LinkedIn, or follow us on Instagram and Bluesky!

With appreciation,

Team Daylight

Competency Mapping Project

The field of philanthropic advising is a messy mix of professional backgrounds, business models, skillsets, services, and success metrics.

To help shed…well…daylight on that mess, we’re releasing a draft philanthropic advising competency model this summer. The model will describe attitudes, knowledge, and skills essential for succeeding in philanthropic advising roles. It should clarify recruitment, hiring, performance measurement, and professional development plans for employers, employees, and solo practitioners.

We’ll base the model on dozens of job descriptions, interviews with a variety of employers, and competency maps from organizations such as the UHNW Institute, Dorothy A. Johnson Center for Philanthropy, CFP Board, and SkillsFuture Singapore.  We’re also partnering with a firm that specializes in developing effective and equitable human capital policies and procedures. A working group comprised of practitioners in the field is helping guide our work, along with our global advisory board.

Be sure you’re signed up to receive our newsletter or follow us on our LinkedIn page for invitations to local gatherings and webinars as we share our report and recommendations!
